The Sligo Centre for Independent Living CLG. (Sligo CIL) began its work in 1996 when a group of local people came together and formed a Sponsor Group for a FAS Community Employment Project to provide a Personal Assistant service for people with disabilities.

The organisation's purpose was and still continues to be entirely charitable and not for profit with a focus on inclusion, equality and empowerment for people with disabilities.
